2007: Invited my parents and family to watch me walk the stage. Walked the stage. Moved out of Blake’s house. Got my own place for the first time. Decided I stay in Austin for at least one year and that I would make the most of it. Met David Walker.
2006: Some family events brought me back to my senses. Decided college was worth it again — started trying again. Started Texas Ventures.
2005: Began working with Radar.net. Learned what it feels like to work in a creative environment. Learned how to brainstorm. Learned about startups. Learned about startups getting financing. Learned how to do marketing for a product that people didn’t actually need.
2004: Did an Internship with College Works Painting. Knocked on doors for 8 hours a day for the first half of the summer asking people if I could paint their house. Hired 6 people and painted houses for 12 hours a day for the second half of the summer.
After knocking on doors, I realized it was easy to get work for myself. You have to ask for it, seems simple, but I didn’t learn it until I did it. Started a “Computer Consulting” company and was secretly shocked that people would actually pay my $60/hr (Didn’t they know I was in college?). Thought I was rich, blew more money than I made on clothes and drinks I could never afford before. Decided college was worthless because I could already make so much money myself.
2003: Joined the rowing team, Texas Crew, and learned how to get up at 5am six days a week.
2002: Graduated HS and began attending The University of Texas at Austin.
